This workshop explores teaching and learning in the 21st century. It elucidates on concepts of ‘elite’ education and ‘mass’ education in the context teaching/learning, and the need for continuous professional development in the complex, globalised, ‘massified’ and ‘commercialised’ higher education environment underpinned by information and communications technology (ICT). This workshop will engage educators in addressing the challenges of teaching and learning in the 21st century and how to engage students in the learning experience.
Topics include:
- The instructional paradigm versus the learning paradigm.
- The Lecturer: Traditional Teaching versus Facilitation
- The Student: Do You Know your Students?
- Contemporary Forms of Educational Assessment
- The Criticality of ICTs in Teaching and Learning.
