Canva for Teaching and Learning: Designing with Purpose

Canva is a versatile, user-friendly design platform that enables educators to create engaging, instructionally sound learning materials; from lecture slides and posters to infographics and student-facing handouts.

In this hands-on workshop, participants will actively design teaching materials while learning how visual design choices directly impact student learning and cognitive load.

Whether you are designing a lecture presentation, activity guide, or student handout, this workshop will support you in creating instructional materials that are clear, engaging, and aligned with sound multimedia principles.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this workshop, participants should be able to:

  • Identify key visual design principles that support learning.
  • Apply Mayer’s Multimedia Design Principles in creating effective instructional materials.
  • Evaluate instructional materials for common design issues.
  • Design or redesign teaching materials using Canva.

Prerequisite

Participants are required to have an active Canva account prior to attending the workshop. A free Canva account is sufficient.
